Change Your World in 71 Days by Tom Connellan

Recently, I read "Change Your World in 71 Days." My initial assumption about this book was definitely incorrect.  I assumed that this was a self-help book, where an expert was sharing advice, which was not something they had actually completed themselves.  Connellan discusses how applicable changing his world in 71 days, as well as how applicable it was for those he shared the information with at work and at home.  I really enjoyed this book because the advice was focused.  Connellan suggests changing one area of your life at one percent.  At first, hearing this suggestion sounds like growth will not actually be achieved. However,  one percent of a 71 day period actually adds up, and the growth is not only evident, but it is a way of life.  After finishing this book, I often find myself waking up and thinking "How can I improve by one percent today?"  This book is definitely a must-read.

What book helped you through a tough time?

When I was going though my divorce, I started reading authors, whom I knew nothing about and discovered J. California Cooper. The book that helped me the most was "A Piece of Mine." Filled with life lessons, this book gives you a sense of peace in each short story and brings new and different light to your life experiences. Check out my review of the book. The Resilient Woman: Mastering the Steps to Personal Power

Broken into three significant parts, The Resilient Woman: Mastering the Steps to Personal Power enveloped the essence of the word, resilient. Having heard this word before and used mostly as a description of hard-working women, I have developed a new-found knowledge of the term, and it's application to my life.Written by Dr. Patricia O'Gorman, PhD., this book contains three parts. Part I and Part II identifies negative and positive aspects of resilience and includes seven steps toward conscious resilience. Part III provides steps to use resilience in your life.  Even though the introduction of the various real life situations were often confusing, this text can be useful in both the personal and professional lives of women. I read the book without completely using the journaling questions, but I can use the questions to create thought provoking writing marathons.

Maria Juana's Gift by T. Lloyd Winetsky

Grabbing my attention from the very beginning, Maria Juana's Gift, written by T. Lloyd Winetsky, reveals a love story, which began from an unimaginable connection and grew into a surreal romance. Maria Juana's Gift unfolds using flashbacks to illustrate the beginning of the love affair between Tina and Jake.  Finding an immediate commonality with Jake and Tina, I discover I possess a strange desire to figure out exactly how the plot will unfold.  Having been a special education teacher for years, this commonality creates a familiarity with the text and encouraged me to devour it.  The passion that both Tina and Jake have spills over into their admiration they quickly have for each other.  Sprinkled with Spanish throughout the text, Maria Juana's Gift demonstrates the power of love and trust in a relationship and how these two components can lend a helping hand through the most trying of times.  After reading Maria Juana's Gift, I appreciated more the lives of my three children and the joy they bring to me.

Last year, the festival featured 243 authors and attracted 40,000 attendees. The winner of the "Escape to Austin" contest will be granted two VIP passes to the weekend-long festival October 26-28, as well as a pass to one of TBF's invitation-only author parties.

"We are very excited to partner with PR by the Book for this contest package," says Lidia Agraz, TBF's Executive Director. "We're still early in the talent line-up process, but I can say that this year's festival will offer attendees a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to commune with true literary icons."
